And apparently, Google had some plans with its Neverware investment in 2017.įinally, in December 2020, Google made a move and acquired Neverware. That was an interesting proposition for Google for pushing its Chrome OS to the masses without any hardware purchase. CloudReady had a free version for personal use and paid enterprise editions. The motive behind CloudReady was to revive old Windows and Macs with an easy transition into a Chrome OS-like environment. This was almost similar to using a Chromebook with some limitations. They had developed CloudReady, an operating system based on open-source Chromium OS. Turning old PCs into nifty Chromebooks was originally the idea of NYC-based Neverware. You can use this cloud-based OS with just a USB stick or the main operating system. Chrome OS Flex promises quick loading times, excellent battery life, and performance boosts. The primary targets are old computers running Windows and Mac. The netbook lacks a Lenovo-style little red stick, but its touchpad is superbly responsive and smooth, and has full multitouch support.It’s a toned-down version of Chrome OS. The Chiclet-style keys on the N150’s keyboard are comfortable to type on, thanks to their short return distance, their standard layout, and the kinesthetic gaps between buttons. ![]() The included Windows 7 Starter Edition runs reasonably well, but it omits the Aero peeks and doesn’t support dual-view monitors. ![]() You won’t be able to do video encoding or serious gaming on this machine. Standard-definition streaming video from Netflix plays smoothly, aside from an occasional stutter videos on iTunes degenerate into a long series of stutters. Typing a Word document while listening to music on iTunes is hunky-dory trying the same feat with a few browser windows open adds a few seconds of meditation time to every switch from one window to another. Its score of 37 on our World Bench 6 tests was middle-of-the-road for an inexpensive netbook. The N150 just doesn’t surprise in performance, either. ![]()
